Cox cable will broadcast ODU football game with Western Kentucky

28 October 2015

Cox Communications, the dominant cable TV provider in Hampton Roads, will broadcast Old Dominion's home football game with Western Kentucky Saturday at noon.

The game is being televised by Fox Sports Networks, a system of nearly two dozen cable outlets in 29 states that is not carried by Cox.

However, Sarah Buck, public relations manager for Cox in Hampton Roads, said the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), a network carried by Cox, negotiated rights to televise the game.

Buck said via email that the game will air on Cox channel 119 or 1119 for HD service.

Cox has been negotiating with Fox for more than a year to begin carrying FSN and Fox College Sports, but so far, they have not been able to agree on rights fees.

That's been a problem for ODU, because Fox is one of three TV networks that broadcast Conference USA football and basketball. Fox officials allowed Cox to broadcast several football games in 2013 and 2014, but said no when ODU played Louisiana Tech last season in its regular-season finale.

Led by quarterback Brandon Doughty, the nation's second-leading passer, Western Kentucky (6-2) is a 23 1/2-point favorite over the Monarchs (3-4), who have lost four of their last five games.

ODU has sold out 45 consecutive games at Foreman Field. Only about 200 tickets remain for the Western Kentucky game, senior associate athletic director Debbie White said.
