City to decide on construction bid for sports complex
25 January 2016
The city’s ready to launch a $175,000 project to build its first walking trail.
Officials have reviewed three construction bids for the project that will cap off a $1.2 million sports complex at North First Street and Durango Avenue.
Tuesday, city commissioners will consider awarding a $174,926 bid to Hector Balderas, the apparent low bidder, City Manager Eleazar Garcia said yesterday.
Officials will use a $50,000 grant to help fund the project.
Plans call for a half-mile asphalt trail to surround the sports complex made up of playing fields, bleachers, a 6,000-square-foot pavilion, an 8,000-square-foot skate park and a concession stand.
The trail will feature exercise stations, Garcia said.
“It’s going to help improve the quality of health,” Garcia said. “It’s going to give people a good place to work out.”
Officials expect the trail to take two months to complete.
