Boilermaker fans get a say in stadium renovation

Alumni and fans of Purdue are getting a chance to give input on a huge project at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Head football coach, Darrell Hazell, and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Morgan Burke, have outlined a five-point plan for the Boilermaker football program. The five points include roster development, recruiting, fan engagement, university support and facilities.

The biggest project under facilities is renovation of the south end zone of Ross-Ade Stadium, and that’s where fans are getting a say.
Via a survey, the athletic department has been collecting input from fans, namely members of the John Purdue Club, about what to do with the south end zone.

Before last season, the athletic department removed bleachers that previously provided the south end zone with thousands of seats. Upon the removal of the bleachers, the athletic department installed a “patio” that features pagodas, tables and chairs. It also housed stands for purchasing food, drinks and, for the first time at Ross-Ade Stadium, alcohol.

The patio was a success, but it was simply a short-term solution for a long-term problem.

Now, the athletic department has come up with multiple ideas for what to do with the south end zone on a permanent basis. These renderings, provided by the athletic department, are concepts of a facility that may or may not end up being built. However, the artwork is extravagant and would be a creative way to solve the ongoing question that has been the south end zone.
