Ada City Council holds groundbreaking ceremony for new sports complex

20 October 2015

City councilors and other officials gathered Monday for an official groundbreaking at the site of the new complex, located on Highway 99 and 377, across from CLEET.

City of Ada Vice Mayor Bryan Morris said the roughly 40-acre complex will have softball and baseball fields, a small lake and pond, playground and walking trails.

“We want to be able to provide an area where citizens can come, where they can come watch their kids, their grandkids, play baseball, play softball,” Morris said. “We look at it as an investment in our community.”

The new complex is paid for by Ada’s “Penny For Our City” sales tax, which is also paying for a new police station, fire station and two aquatic centers.

The one-cent sales tax was passed in August 2010 and extended in January 2015.

Other features of the sports complex include concession stands, an events stage and restrooms.

Ada City Council members voted to hire the Ada-based MacHill Construction company to build the $4.89 million sports complex in June.

The first stage of Ada’s latest project is expected to be completed in about a year.
