25-Acre Sports Complex Coming To Post Falls

20 July 2016

Change is finally on the way for a pair of parks projects in Post Falls that have been in the works for years.

The city has agreed with a company to finish developing a park stalled during the recession.

The City of Post Falls has entered into an agreement with a local developer to finish a couple of goals that have long been in the works.

First, Tullamore park in the subdivision that shares its name. The land at the intersection of Charleville and Bogie drive was planned as a park years ago.

The subdivision developer was responsible, but then the recession hit and the land went to a bank.

The second goal was the city's desire for some new fields.

"We had been looking for land for sports fields for quite a while."

The city of Post Falls recently entered into an agreement with Copper Basin Construction, the new developer of the subdivision.

Under the deal, the city will pitch in roughly half a million dollars to help finish the park.

At the same time, the city is purchasing the land around half a mile north of the park to be used for a future sports complex.

"This is the first time we've bundled all of those components together,” Parks and Rec Director Dave Fair.

The 1.6 million dollar complex will first off have softball diamonds, but will then later have fields for soccer, rugby, and lacrosse.

Both sides are helping out in the construction effort. That's a unique situation, the city said.

"When you have one that's going forward and all the pieces come together, and you're able to get a park in for the public, it feels good,” Fair said.

Officials said the sports complex is at least three years out.
